Portland attorneys representing 10 women who say they were sexually abused by a notorious pedophile teacher at the American School in Japan in the 1970s and '80s sent a demand letter Thursday to the prestigious Tokyo school, claiming the school ignored reports that the teacher was preying on girls for decades.
The letter claims the American School allowed teacher Jack Moyer to have unfettered access to his victims, middle-school girls, including one who now lives in central Oregon. For more than a century, the school has been attended by the children of leaders of U.S. businesses including Nike and Boeing, government officials and missionaries working in Japan.
The school couldn’t immediately be reached for comment for this story.
The Portland firm of O’Donnell Clark and Crew sent the letter. Attorney Steve Crew said the first victim he’s been able to identify told school administration in 1975 that Moyer had abused her.
“She reported it to the headmaster, and nothing happened,” Crew said. “And that was the pattern for 25 years.”
Crew said many of the 10 victims or their families reported Moyer’s alleged sexual abuse to the school, but he was allowed to continue working with children.
Moyer worked for the school from 1963 to 2000, according to the firm, and retired in 2000. He killed himself in 2004.
That was a short while after two of the 10 women confronted Moyer in emails, Crew said. Crew said Moyer wrote them back, admitted the abuse and sent them a list of the names of 11 or 12 victims, with brief descriptions of how he abused them.
According to an article in The Japan Times, in March the school sent a letter to alumni stating it had recently learned Moyer had abused students. That drew sharp criticism from some alumni, who petitioned the school to hire an independent party to investigate whether the school covered up its knowledge of the reported abuse.
The school has hired a law firm to perform an independent investigation, according to Crew’s firm.
The letter sent to the American School demands that the results of the independent investigation be made public. The letter also asks the school to compensate the 10 women and an undetermined number of other alleged victims, but the letter doesn't list a dollar amount sought.
If a lawsuit is filed, Crew said it will most likely be in New Jersey, where the American School in Japan has a “sister corporation” called Friends of the American School in Japan.
Former students who say they were victimized have reached out to each other -- particularly after former student, Janet Simmons, began writing in 2009 about Moyer in a blog titled “Thank you for holding my hand.”
Crew said nine or 10 of the women his firm represents have all been supporting each other through an email network over the past few months or years.
The reason I'm asking is because I recently read an article on Wikipedia about a kind of child pornography called Lolicon. Apparently in Japan lolicon is sold inside adult stores. If adult stores here tried to sell it, I imagine they would be made to stop. This leads me to ask, are pedophiles more widely accepted in Japan?
Best Answer: ecoguy: I wouldn't say they are accepted, just that it is more common. Lolicon, or, the Lolita complex(being attracted to someone very young), is a much bigger problem in Japan than most other developed nations. I'm assuming the lolicon you are speaking of is anime/manga because real child pornography was outlawed in Japan in 1999. It's hard to describe Japanese culture, there have been many books written trying to explain Japanese society. It's such an incredible nation, but like any other nation, it has it's problems. You should read up on Japan or take a trip there.
yuming: Lets be honest, they are creepers but unfortunately anime fans will defend Japan to the death.
Tokyo E: No pedophiles are not widely accepted in Japan. All you have to do is watch the news the police and the criminal justice system actively prosecute pedophiles in Japan, recently two people were arrested in Japan for sending child pornography to the United States.
Another man was arrested for molesting a kid. There was lots of public outrage about situations like that.
Hardly an environment that "widely accepts" pedophiles.
Drawings like lolicon skirt the Japanese laws because they are drawings not real photos (which are illegal). It is often critized in Japan as well, but you do have strange people who purchase them, but again its hardly an environment that accepts pedophiles.
Rabbityama: Americans buy into such fantasies just as much. Does it disgust you that Catholic school girl uniforms are viewed as sexually stimulating? Well, a lot of Americans (and probably Brits/Australians) fantasize about them, but in the end they are SCHOOL uniforms, and children are the ones wearing them and stimulating these fantasies.
Also, the extremely popular show "Family Guy" has an elderly male character (I believe his name is Herbert) who actively pursues Peter's son, Chris, and the show makes it very clear that the man is interested sexually in the boy, but he's a LIKEABLE character. A lot of people find the pedophile to be funny, and people from children to adults watch the show.
In both instances, though, a person who actually pursues a Catholic school girl will NOT be viewed as "living the dream" by society, and nobody would laugh if they found that a man in their community molested (or even attempted to molest) a young boy. This is true for America, and it is true for Japan, as well.
askawow 47: no, not at all. those things are illegal in japan too. anime and otaku culture are recognized in japan and the us etc now. but pedophiles are totally different thing. i think japanese law is kinda easy than the us. but not accepted in japan either.
Godfather's Pizza: Where's "here"?
If you're talking the U.S., showing naked kids frolicking in the bath on TV is illegal. So what's more acceptable? Older men with younger women, or the idea that young children are sex objects and therefore shouldn't be shown naked?
stop_staring_please" not all countries consider men that want to be with young girls...teenagers...pedophiles. That is a western belief. Older men have been with younger girls since the dawn of time. Mary mother of jesus was said to have been only 15 while joseph would have been around 30.
PS: I'm not saying that I agree with it. I was simply answering your question.
and if for some reason i am mistaken then the answer SHOULD be no.
What you're thinking of is probably high school girls in their Sailor Moon uniforms..It's a comic book for men, and rarely goes beyond a fantasy level.
Is it just anime, or real people? Pedophiles are not accepted anywhere. They should be caught, jailed, and their penis guillotined.

As long as guys are cool with having a needle stuck in their junk.
Most people think of Botox as a cosmetic drug that does just one thing—it temporarily reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face by paralyzing the underlying muscles. As it turns out, Botox can do so much more: In recent years, doctors have found that it can be useful for treating a wide range of medical conditions, including chronic migraine headaches, an overactive bladder, excessive sweating, and even crossed eyes.
But that's not all. Botox, it turns out, also has the potential to help men who have concerns about the appearance and function of their penises. Here are three surprising things Botox can do down there.
It can increase flaccid penis size.
A recent survey of more than 4,000 US men found that guys' biggest complaint about their genitals was the length of their flaccid (non-erect) penises. More than one-quarter of respondents wanted theirs to be longer.
For a man who wishes he was more of a "shower," there aren't a whole lot of options on the market, short of expensive and risky surgical procedures and stretching devices that need to be worn several hours per day for months on end. Botox, however, could change that.
In a 2009 study, researchers used Botox to try and help guys who had a "hyperactive retraction reflex." In other words, these were men who experienced a lot more "shrinkage" (in the words of George Costanza) than others. Doctors made four injections around the base of the penis, with the goal of paralyzing the muscles responsible for the shrinkage reflex, known as the tunica dartos. And it worked.
Average flaccid size was about half an inch larger after the injections, and the guys didn't shrink as much in response to cold temperature. Most participants were happy with the outcome. However, it's important to note that erect size didn't change, and the effects were temporary—they lasted up to six months. So this isn't a one-shot deal—it's something you'd need to do at least a couple of times per year, just like if you were treating forehead wrinkles.
It might help guys last longer in bed.
Premature ejaculation is the most common sexual problem reported by men. There are tons of treatments out there for it already, including "delay sprays," Kegel exercises, and behavioral methods like the stop-start technique, but Botox might be another viable option in the near future.
In a 2014 study, researchers injected Botox into the bulbospongious muscle of male rats. This muscle sits at the base of the penis (see here) and is involved in ejaculation. Using Botox to paralyze this muscle can make sex last longer: For rats that received a placebo shot, their average time to ejaculation was six and a half minutes, compared to ten minutes for those that got a full dose of the drug.
There's a clinical trial underway right now to see if it works just as well in humans. We should know the results later this year, which will also tell us whether or not repeat doses are required, or if a single treatment might be enough for guys to learn more ejaculatory control.
It could help treat erectile dysfunction, too.
A new paper published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine argues that Botox could be a "game changer" when it comes to treating erectile dysfunction (ED). The thought here is that Botox could be used to paralyze the smooth muscles inside the erectile chambers of the penis. By relaxing these muscles, blood should be able to flow into the penis more easily.
A small study conducted in Egypt that was reported last year provided some initial support for this idea: Men with ED who received a Botox injection demonstrated improvements in penile blood flow. One patient, however, experienced priapism afterward—a prolonged erection that wouldn't go away on its own. This tells us that dosage is going to be very important: Too much muscle relaxation isn't a good thing.
Larger clinical trials should be underway soon, but in the meantime, it's important to highlight that any effects are going to be temporary and that once the Botox wears off, erectile difficulties will return because those muscles will start contracting and impeding blood flow again. Although it's not a permanent fix, Botox could be more appealing to some guys than Viagra due to convenience: Rather than popping a pill every time they want to have sex, they could just get a couple of shots per year.
While scientists will undoubtedly continue to explore these and other effects of Botox on the penis, this doesn't necessarily mean patient demand will follow. Indeed, we don't know yet how many men are actually going to take advantage of these discoveries in the future. After all, if you want to experience any of the benefits of "bonetox," you have to be cool with someone sticking a needle in your junk.
A suspect was arrested and faces arson and burglary charges after investigators said he lit a pair of fires at a Las Vegas synagogue Monday evening in a possible hate crime, according to authorities.
Las Vegas Police arrested Afshin Bahrampour in a shopping center parking lot across the street from the scene of two fires set at the Chabad of Southern Nevada Desert Torah Academy at 1261 Arville Street late Monday, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.
Firefighters were called out to handle a car fire in the synagogue’s parking lot just after 8 p.m. Monday. Crews quickly extinguished the blaze, which caused significant damage to the vehicle and minor damage to two others.
While firefighters were cleaning up after the car fire, synagogue personnel told investigators they had extinguished a mysterious fire in a waste basket inside their building two hours earlier, Szymanski said.
Afshin Bahrampour has a very interesting history. He's a registered sex offender on 2 counts of sodomy. The case is likely this one in Oregon.
On December 10, 1997 at approximately 3:00 p.m., AFSHIN BAHRAMPOUR, age 28, from Sherwood, was taken into custody by officers from Sherwood and Tigard Police Departments after eluding authorities for over one year.
In 1996, a secret indictment based upon an Oregon State Police investigation was handed down by a Washington County Grand Jury charging Afshin Bahrampour with several counts of Sex Abuse involving a girl who was 13 years old at the time. Aware of the investigation, he left the address where he was living in Beaverton and moved to an unknown location. Bahrampour was known to work as a gymnastics coach at several local area gymnastics facilities where he had contact with young girls.
At about 2:45 p.m., Sherwood Police Officer G. Smith received a call from the principal of Hopkins Elementary School advising that Bahrampour had tried to enter their school and was refused entry. Officers continued to check the area, and based upon additional sightings by some public works employees, Bahrampour was found walking on Tonquin Road near Tonquin Loop in Sherwood. Officers described Bahrampour as being dirty and muddy from hiding in bushes in the area.
He was convicted and sentenced to 8 years in prison for the abuse of a 13 year old girl. And then launched an impressive array of lawsuits against everyone and everything.
He sued Oregon because they wouldn't let him have copies of Muscle Elegance magazine. (It was determined he had no Federal constitutional right to receive it in prison.) and the Joint Chiefs of Unfaith, aka America.
This matter involves Afshin Bahrampour's civil-right action against the Joint Chiefs of Unfaith, Barack Obama, N.A.S.A., the Central Intelligence Agency, the U.S. Navy, the National Security Administration, Independent Agencies, and the United States of America, among others, for reading his thoughts.
For example, Plaintiff states that "[t]he 'neural remote monitoring,' N.R.M., is audibly recognizable in the auditory cortex at 15 (hertz) and is a very mentally distressing and distractionary [sic] PRESENCE. It interrupts my prayer as a Shia Muslim."
But apparently molesting young girls and trying to start fires in synagogues does not.
Afshin Bahrampour seems to have wasted countless amounts of taxpayer money in these lawsuits and his various imprisonments. Just imagine if we had acted sanely and just sent him back where he came from.
